Anyone have a gaited horse?

Post by nags-equestrian on Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:09 am

I recently found out that my horse is gaited, I am not very familiar with gaited horses and we don't get a lot of them around here, I always called it his funny trot.

He does the foxtrot and flatwalk. Since finding out what gait it was (it was very fast- 15 mph) I have managed to slow him down a lot and we are actually getting a decent gait now.

I ride him treeless and bitless, but find it a bit difficult to sit his foxtrot when out hacking sometimes, as he does like to go fast! Still working on saddles with that one.

I don't have a gaited horse myself, but a friend of mine breeds Curly Missouri Foxtrotters. They are pretty flashy. Plus, she has a Champagne Tennessee Walker stallion too. Verra nice!

Sister in law has a foxtrotter too and she just loves her foxtrot.
