Paddock Paradise

Has anyone experience, anecdotes or aquaintances who have used/do use this pasture/horse management system? It may help me persuade my horse's owner to set it up for us Cheers!

I heard about this on the radio and I'm going to do it this next summer - I always feel so sorry for my horses in a paddock the size of a postage stamp all summer. My field is only 4 acres, but I'm still going to do it. My friend who likes her horses fat can have the centre bit, so my two will still be near their mates. Saving up for mega amounts of electric posts, though!

My friend does it and loves it. Also, you can leave a middle area which you never graze and cut hay for the winter from it.

I'd do it like a shot if I wasn't at livery. It's ideal if you can arrange the pathways so that they still allow the horses access to hedgerows etc (if you have them). Easy to poo pick too, or you could just run a harrow round the old path once you've moved to a new one (if the weather is dry).

I have read about this on the barefoot website http://www.successful-natural-horsecare.com/paddock-paradise.html . I have observed Trelawny and the two horses he lives with. We are very fortunate to have 16 acres of steep ground, with rocky areas, wet and dry area's. We have trees and hedges aplenty, with gorse, bramble and other wild plants to negotiate. The grass is poor and gets grazed by sheep in the summer. The horses use the whole of the 16 acres on their daily rummage for food - especially in winter when there isnt much grass and they follow a familiar route starting at one end and working around until they arrive back at the stables for bedtime. I like the method of grazing these people are promoting - it wouldnt work in my situation - but then I am very fortunate to have such a diverse bit of ground for Trelawny to roam on.
