billets causing discomfort? Empty billets causing discomfort?

Is there anything a person can do about billets that cut into the horse's sides when tightened? I suppose that would be very hard to do because you wouldn't be able to tighten it with a cover on it. The only thing would be to put something against the horse's side, underneath the billet...something that wouldn't shift or bunch up. Perhaps I am answering my own question Laughing

I used to use the pads you get for putting under leg bandages they worked well and didn't crease up
