fine tuning the fit of a dr cooks bridle

Post by perfectpolly on Thu Aug 21, 2008 3:02 pm

Hi all, A quick question on fine tuning the fit of a dr cooks brildle.

Q) does it matter if the browband on a dr cooks bridle is too big and sticking out? Would i be better off using her old browband instead? does this affect the use of the bridle?

Q) noseband- read trhe instructions and it says one flat fingers width. one hole is slightly more, the next is slightly tighter. which one would you use for best communication?

thanks for any advice in advance...... flower

Browbands are not an essential piece of equipment (as many western riders know) if it bothers you that it looks wierd first make sure you have it adjusted right as the adjustment may make it a bit off sized and if you don't like how it looks change it. It's not a big deal.

I would have the noseband looser. One finger is good, two is better especially if the horse has to cough or tries to yawn. A tiny bit more than a finger is not going to make any difference at all.

I'd ditto Sydney on both of the above, especially the looser noseband. More comfortable for the horse, also ensures better 'release' which is what it's all about - horses learn from the release, not the pressure Smile
