Lent
Are you giving anything up? Although I don't know if I can call myself Christian any more (don't ask what my religion is, I'm not sure myself) I usually like to mark it.
I'm giving up cakes and chocolate and reckon that will save me £1 a day (conservative estimate) then that money saved can go to Action Against Hunger
Anyone want to join me...?

Re: Lent
Giving up cakes and chocolate will be easy for me, because I don't really care for either. I know...hard to believe.

Re: Lent
Now you'll think I'm really weird...but I don't like coffee either!!
I love the smell of it when you first open the bag of beans, but the taste is too nasty for me.
To be honest...the one thing that would be hardest for me to give up right now isn't food-related. The hardest thing for me to give up would be checking out this group and some yahoo groups that I'm a part of. I spend way too much time sitting here in front of the computer. I just like to "hang out" with you guys, though. You are all my horsey friends because I have no "in person" ones.

Re: Lent
Oh Cyndi you are NEVER to give that up!
I like coffee but I switched to decaf a few months back, that was the worst weekend ever I'm glad I did it though, I've got much more energy and I hadn't realised how much it was upsetting my stomach and kidneys
I've been doing well with my 'fast'. Especially since I had a brace put on my bottom teeth on Thursday and I'm not enjoying eating anything very much at the moment...

Re: Lent
Hey Cyndi, are you going to Can-Am in London this year? If I end up going maybe we could meet up one day there. It's definately worth the time to go there just to watch the clinicians and get cool deals.
Re: Lent
I had planned to go this year, and wished I had a "horsey" friend to go with, since it's less than a half hour away from me. Alas, we are going away for March Break and will just be getting home on the 22nd (the Sunday). I would have loved to have met you and spent the day with you!

Re: Lent
Ah no!! I am going on the Saturday with a few friends I believe.
Can am is fun for everyone. I brought my mum and dad one year and even they enjoyed it.
Oh sorry to Haijack the thread lol!!
Back on topic now. I've never celebrated lent though a lot of people around me has. What exactly is it?

Re: Lent
Yes, It's got to be done! Chocolate, cakes, biscuits, crisps, I'm giving up the lot in an attempt to shift the winter weight gain. Hopefully I'll be able to resist everything when Easter comes and not slip back into old habits. I don't actually eat a lot of these things but it's amazing how little it takes to put on wieght as you get older.

Re: Lent
Nothing for Lent but I am sticking to my New Year resolution - to wear in turn ALL the clothes I own, not just the same things over and over. It's getting quite fun now I'm getting used to it, I've got some stuff I've had years and never worn before!

Re: Lent
Sydney - Lent (as I understand it) is a Christian festival of hunger/sacrifice-typeyness - I'm sure someone can describe this a bit better! - symbolising the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert with no food or water. The most common method of celebrating it is to give up something one really enjoys for 40 days.
