New Barn Empty New Barn

Post by Cyndi Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:41 pm

Things have a funny way of working themselves out, don't they? About two or three weeks ago I found a new barn for Fanny. I really liked it, and my husband felt the same way. The owners are wonderful. I got in touch with my friend who trailered Fanny here, and she said she'd move her for me. We decided that Oct. 28th would be the day. Everything was set.

As most of you know from the yahoo group, things didn't go as planned and Fanny ended up with a mild case of laminitis. I am thankful that it wasn't worse than it was. We moved her to the new barn last Sunday, the 26th.. I'm so glad that we had the new barn arrangements all made beforehand, because I don't know where I would've taken her.

She's been at her new barn a week (tomorrow), and seems to be settling in well. I posted some new pics of her. In the background you can see the woods that are full of trails. I hope to be able to use them some day. I've taken her for walks along the field that is behind her in the pics, but she's still nervous about being out there and usually gets spooky if I take her too far. I am taking her short distances and will work my way up with her.

Fanny's still in a dry paddock, and can only be taken out to graze for 10 to 15 minutes per day, a couple times a week. Her last dose of Bute was given today, so we'll see how she's doing once she's off it. The ground is fairly soft where she is, except for the rocks near the gates. If she doesn't seem lame, then I can exercise her more. I'll do it in the field behind her paddock, because it's nice and soft.

We can not believe the different feel at this new barn. If it's possible, this barn actually feels "happy", whereas the other barn was heavy with tension. I think we'll like it here. Fanny is able to hang heads over the fence with two other horses, but she can't go in the field with them yet. Not till the grass is good and frozen.

Sorry for the long "blog" message silent

Thanks for the update. Glad things seem much better for you both at the new barn. I'm not surprised Fanny is a bit spooky as you've changed a lot of things in her life. Once she is settled you should be able to do more things with her.

This last week it's finally stopped raining here so I've been getting out on some longer rides. It's so good being out with your pony and enjoying the countryside, I hope you get to do this soon.

Sorry I said I was surprised Fnny got laminitis at this time of year. I forgot you weren't just down the road from us. The trick is to know your own climate and land when dealing with laminitis. Soundls like you are getting to grips with this.

Cyndi I meant to post my congratulations days ago but forgot my password and I've only just remembered it Laughing

I'm really pleased for you! you had so many hassles at the old barn, it must be a huge relief.

Onwards and upwards now! cheers
