Re: Starting Jacko
Scary story about halters being on in the field:
My farrier comes to trim my horse a couple months ago and brings a hoof, no bones attached just a hoof. He said he was called before he came to do my girls and this pony had caught his hoof in his halter which in the farriers opinion was quite well fitting. The pony was grazing when it happened. He couldn't get his hoof out and when his owners found him they had to cut the halter off. He only had his foot in the halter for 15 minutes. The next day his actual hoof fell off! Kind of like your fingernail falling off only you aren't so Dependant on your nails as horses are hooves. So the pony was real sore and standing on the sensitive part of his hoof. The farrier thought he might be ok but then he got laminitis and had to be put down. The hoof looks really cool though but poor pony.

Re: Starting Jacko
Hi, for some training ideas try
http://www.horsepoint.com.au/portal/alias__horsepointau/tabID__805079/DesktopDefault.aspx
the page reads bottom to top.
All the pages and also the Q&A
http://www.naturalhorsetraining.com/
also anything by Gwen Santagate, she is a sponge for information, is a grandma now, still a barefoot trimmer, clicker training, homeopathay, behaviour/psychology, runs courses on line and forums, joins in a few yahoo groups, alternativehorse is one, see Penzance horse or do a Gwen Santagate websearch.
You will also find her adding some wisdom to some posts with Marv Walker http://marvwalker.com/index.htm as well as writing a lot of articles, some jointly with John Lyons. The woman also fits in caring for kids who have run into problems, obviously has n't enough to do with her own four grown up.
You will also find articles on leading and training here
http://equisearch.com/horses_riding_training/western/halter/ not many bitless but most of the principles are visual/audible cues from your body language and repetition.
Barefoot links I'd need another page or two, but suggest you start by reading and clicking on photos for anatomy on
http://www.equinextion.com/id31.html and their homesite
http://www.equinextion.com/index.html
as well as the super well explained site by Marjorie Smith, lots of links there and plenty of photo's http://www.barefoothorse.com/
and these http://user.cavenet.com/parkerk/
http://www.thepenzancehorse.com/
http://www.barefoottrim.com/
That should keep your house from being cleaned for a good while.

You might want to copy/paste/email yourself for reference as there should be a fair amount of homework to cross reference in that lot.
