YOIKS!!! Shocked

At riding lessons on Saturday, I asked Jason if he would use my bitless bridle to train Fanny when she goes there. He said that if that's what I have and that's what I want, he will.

He did ask me why I chose bitless though. He's not familiar with bitless bridles, so I'm going to take my Nurtural to him next week. I said that I don't want to hurt Fanny with a bit. He said that some bitless bridles are more severe than a bit, like the hackamore. I know in my mind that I want a bitless, but I just didn't know what to say to him, other than I just don't like bits. I agreed that hackamores can do more damage than a bit in some cases, when used incorrectly, but I just don't know how to answer his questions 'scientifically'. I just hope that seeing and working with the Nurtural changes his mind.

He does use Parelli halters for riding bitless. He also likes the basic snaffle bit. I don't know one type of bit from the other, to be honest. He had a bitless pony bridle that he showed me, to see if it's the same as mine, but it wasn't.

Well first of all I can give you hundreds of reasons why I shouldn't put a bit in a horses mouth that are backed up scientifically by research and evidence but I can't find even one article that is backed up scientifically how bits benefit a horse in any constructive way. I've been searching for a couple years now.

Perhaps print out my paper I wrote a couple years back and give it to him.

Wow, that's some paper you wrote! You sure did a lot of research. Great work!

I will keep your paper in mind. I'm hoping that actions speak louder than words, and that he can see how well a bitless bridle can work. I'd love if he let me use it in my lessons this week.

Yup. It needs to be updated too lol! It's old.

Actions usually speak louder than words but sometimes people are just not convinced.

you know every time I look through the horse catalogues and turn to the bit pages it just disgusts me to think that these things are even legal to use let alone that anyone would want to put an item of such cruelty into a horses mouth.

Bejaysus Shocked

I agree with Winterweave, can't believe what people will willingly put on their horse - not just bits either. It's like the horse world has a collective set of rose tinted specs on...

Going to sit and read your thesis when I have a moment later Sydney - looks great Very Happy

Always makes me roll my eyes when bitted riders say that as it proves that they still think the only bitless option is the German hackamore (which is indeed unpleasant). I don't know anyone who rides bitless for humane reasons who has chosen a German hackamore! It went out with the ark, tell him welcome to the 21st century Laughing

I took my bitless bridle to my trainer on Monday, and he's still not too sure about it. He doesn't understand how it works. He will use it on Fanny if I want him to, though. I hope she shows him that it works better than a bit Very Happy
