ISES and bitless dressage

Post by FlorayG on Tue Mar 15, 2011 10:35 am

Links here to letter from International Society for Equine Science to United States Equestrian Federation
http://www.equitationscience.com/Documents/Letter_to_USEF_Subject_Bitless_Bridles.pdf

and their meaningless reply
http://www.equitationscience.com/Documents/Letter_to_ISES_JLadewig.pdf

in which they basically say they can't trust dressage riders to train their horses correctly so they need a bit to remain in 'control'. Unbelievable that they admit this.

It's sad how fear runs things, isn't it? Rather than taking the time to train a horse properly, most people just want to control a horse quickly and make it "perform". There are probably many professional riders who don't know or trust their horses, and I'm sure the horses feel the same way.
